HONGKONG, 3rd. December, 1915.

I have the honour to inform you with deep regret that Mr. E. A. Hewett, a member of the Executive and Legisla -tive Councils of this Colony, died suddenly in the Government Civil Hospital on Wednesday the 24th. November, the cause of death being malignant malaria with the complication of disease of the kidneys.

Mr. Hewett's death is a great loss to this Colony, and the wide esteem in which he was held by all classes of the community was shown by the large attendance at the funeral, which was & Military me, the deceased having been a member of the Hongkong Volunteer Reserves. Rear-Admiral R. H. Anstruther with a number of officers and men of the Tavy, the General Officer Command. -ing and his Staff, and Officers of the Garrioca, md the Officers and men of the Volunteers and Reserves mere present. The bearers were drom from D. Company of the Reserves which is composed of some of the leading men of the Community between the ages of 74 and

Executive Council, and a copy of the proceedings in the Legislative Council relating to the matter.
